Rest Stops
We encourage you to stop and relax and refuel at two to five scenic rest stops, depending on your route. Remember to drink before you get thirsty! Have your ride bib visible so we know that you are a registered rider. Please note that you must be at a rest stop before its closing time in order to ensure access to food and water.
Rest Stop Closing Times
- 10:15 am City Hall
- 12 pm Prospect Park
- 2 pm Marine Park
- 4 pm Kissena Park
- 4:30 pm The James Langergaard Rest Stop at Astoria Park
- 5:30 pm Van Cortlandt Park
- 6 pm Central Park, if you want to be greeted at Central Park, you must arrive before 6 pm.
NYC Century Finish Festival
Traditional NYC Century Bike Tour ends with music and massages in Central Park. Whether you biked 15 or 100 miles, we invite you to hang out in Central Park. We will have your commemorative NYC Century t-shirt and water bottle waiting for you. If you started in Prospect Park this year, then Central Park is just a rest stop for you and you’ll need to continue on to Brooklyn after grabbing a light snack. Don't forget to give T.A. some feedback or sign up to be a T.A.member.
What to Bring Check List
- Helmet: required by NY law for children under 14, strongly encouraged for all
- Water bottles filled with water
- Appropriate clothing: be prepared for rain and/or intense sun
- Sunglasses and sunscreen
- Extra tire tube. Check for the size on your tire.
- Pump, tire levers and patch kit (also an adjustable wrench if your wheels are not quick-release)
- NYC cycle and subway maps
- Money: although we provide snacks and water, you may want to buy a full lunch. It's also a good idea to bring change for the phone and a MetroCard.
Marshals
Riding marshals are volunteers who are there to help you during the ride. You'll be able to identify them by their orange vests and their marshal riding bib. You should feel free to ask a marshal to help you at any point. It is important for your safety that you follow their directions at key intersections and rest stops. One sweep team will cover the whole route on pace to reach rest stops just as they close. If the sweep catches up to you, you'll need to keep up in order to take advantage of our rest stops. If you find that you must leave the NYC Century early, locate the nearest subway. If you need medical attention, a marshal can call for help or you can call 911.
Medics
For our medical coverage, we rely on Volunteer Ambulance Corps. They are community ambulance corps and so they may be called from their NYC Century posts to attend to a call in their district. Because of this, you should always call 911 first to get the-fastest response to a medical emergency.
